Portugal expects increased tourism during summer 2014

Hotel managers and travel agents contacted by the Tourism of Portugal in February and March said they expect to see an increase in tourism during the summer of 2014, compared with last year.

The Algarve, North, the Alentejo and the Azores will be some of the regions where demand is projected to be higher this summer. Lisbon, Madeira and the Centro region should be stable in terms of demand.

According to travel agents, the US is one of the countries they think will maintain or show increased tourism this year. According to data, travel to the Azores, in particular, by North American tourists is expected to increase by 100 percent, compared with last year.

Hotel managers also believe that the demand for 5 star hotels by the US market will probably increase this year, with the Azores again projected to have the most increase in interest.
