In 2014, it will be 500 years since the renewal of the Lanhoso council cartas de foral. These were letters signed by King D. Manuel I to establish a city council and its administration. In celebration of this quincentennial (January 4th), each month of the year, a different celebratory event will be put on. In May, for example, the town is hosting a debate on the town’s history and modern day presence, as well as its administrative reform. Around this same time, the town will host a XV century market, and during Carnaval the streets will be taken over by a parade, and the New Year will be welcomed by a celebration reminiscent of centuries long gone.
